Marcatus QED is a Corporate Supporter of AFC Toronto.
This is new for us, but the reason behind it is not.
Since 2015, the Marcatus Mobile Education Platform has been working with smallholder farming communities, first in India and more recently in Madagascar. Women do a large share of the work on those farms and have long been left out of the training that goes with it, held back by land rights, access to credit, and assumptions about who gets taught. MMEP was built to close that gap, bringing women into training as participants and decision-makers rather than bystanders. We later added the Scholarship for Women in Agriculture to help young women continue their studies and move into leadership roles in the sector.
That work is a decade old now, and it happens a long way from Toronto. When AFC Toronto invited us to support the club in 2026, it was a chance to do something similar closer to home.
AFC Toronto is a professional women’s soccer club based in the city and one of six founding clubs of the Northern Super League, Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league. It was started in 2023 by people from Toronto’s own soccer community and played its first season in 2025, finishing top of the table to win the league’s inaugural Supporters’ Shield before reaching the final.
The league is growing quickly. Its first season drew more than 272,000 fans, AFC Toronto’s opening home match brought in over 14,500 on its own, and matches now air on CBC, TSN, and ESPN. A few years ago, professional women’s soccer in Canada was an idea. It now has six clubs, a broadcast audience, and crowds that keep getting bigger.
Being at a match makes those numbers feel small. The energy in the stands and the standard these athletes are playing at are worth seeing in person.
Different continent, different field, same principle: when women are given the platform, the support, and the room to lead, they do.
We are glad to be behind this club, and we are looking forward to the season.
Go AFC Toronto.
